Support for Microsoft Windows 10 ends October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide free security updates, patches, or any technical support for machines running Windows 10.
This means that by the end of 2025, Windows 10 will have reached both End-of-Life (EOL) and End-of-Support (EOS). So if you're still hanging onto Windows 10 or haven't yet made the leap to Windows 11, it's time to think about what's coming next.
The Importance of Upgrading to Windows 11
Continuing to operate on Windows 10 after the End-of-Support (EOS) date poses significant risks to your business, including:
- Security Vulnerabilities: Without security updates, Windows 10 systems will become increasingly vulnerable to malware, viruses, and cyberattacks. This could lead to data breaches, financial losses, and operational disruptions.
- Compliance Issues: Many industry regulations and compliance standards require up-to-date, secured operating systems. Failure to upgrade could result in non-compliance penalties or other audit risks.
- Software Compatibility Issues: Newer software applications and hardware devices may not be compatible with Windows 10, leading to performance issues and reduced productivity. Incompatible software may either perform poorly or not work at all following the EOS date.
- Increased Support Costs: Troubleshooting and resolving issues on an unsupported operating system will become increasingly difficult and costly.
Risks and Costs of Delaying the Switch to Windows 11
Delaying your upgrade past the EOL and EOS dates will not only expose your machines to the risks outlined above. Additionally, you may face:
- Increased emergency support fees with your IT support provider for resolving issues on unsupported systems.
- Potential data loss and recovery costs in the event of a security breach.
- Productivity losses due to system instability and compatibility issues.
What if I can't upgrade to Windows 11?
